For the first time in recorded history, Leigh says, the younger generation carries more mental and physical health problems than the one before it. The three she sees most are anxiety, ADHD, and depression, and her explanation is repetition: hours of practice at one set of behaviors and none at the rest.
Leigh's prescription is discipline rather than willpower. She schedules brain breaks into her calendar and takes them on the days she wants to skip them. Her target is a 23-minute break every 90 minutes, with a 15-minute break every 2 hours as the floor.
